German and Spanish National Honor Societies

Delta Epsilon Phi is the National Honor Society for High School Students of German. Delta Epsilon Phi is sponsored nationwide by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG), and our local EHS chapter has been named Pennsylvania Gamma Pi. The purpose of this organization is "to recognize high school scholastic achievement in the study of German and to promote interest in the study of German language, literature, and civilization." Ephrata German NHS students typically volunteer in various activities throughout the year, including the support of the Friends of Eberbach committee in Ephrata’s Oktoberfest, singing German Christmas carols in the community, and visiting 5th and 7th grade classrooms to deliver introductory German lessons. On a biannual basis the students help to organize activities with our German exchange program.  In all of these activities the goal is to promote an interest in the German language and culture.

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).  Our local EHS chapter is named Octavio Paz.  The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement in the Spanish language and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic studies.  In order to be inducted into SHH, each student must have an A average after completing level III of Spanish.  Once becoming a member of the society students perform community service to share the language and culture.
