Constitution Day

On September 17, 1787, the United States Constitution was signed by 39 brave men who changed the course of history. The signing of the Constitution is one of the most important and influential events in American history, establishing the many rights and freedoms “We the People” enjoy today. District students and staff participated in several events to help celebrate Constitution Day on Friday, September 17.

Fulton Principal Gary Oberly taught 1st Grade students about the Constitution and taught the young students the “Constitution Day” song. Fulton students also learned about the Constitution at lessons and displays created by school librarian, Julie Straub.

At Akron Elementary School, 4th Grade classes visited 1st, 2nd , and 3rd Grade classrooms to present a reader’s theater about the constitution and sing the “Constitution Day” song.

Students in Mrs. Wendy Mellinger’s Ephrata High School Social Studies classes participated in a “Rank Your Rights” activity. Students worked in small groups to unanimously select the five rights they felt were most important. The groups role-played that their land was ruled by a dictator who only allowed the citizens to have three rights. Each group made a brief presentation to argue for the rights they wished to be granted.
