Dart grant for advanced physics

Ephrata High School received a $5,000 grant from Dart Foundation as part of the Dart Container Corporation 50th anniversary celebration. The foundation awarded fifty $5,000 grants to public and private schools near their 14 U.S.-based offices and six foreign plants. The grants are to be used to purchase equipment or advance programs related to science, technology, engineering, or math.

Doug Kellogg (HS Science) applied for the grant that will provide equipment to enhance the Advanced Physics labs at the high school. The equipment will also be used extensively in the Independent Research classes and other advanced science courses.

The grant will be used to purchase a Thermal Imaging Camera and High Speed Video Camera, which will enable students to see what they cannot normally experience.  Visualizing heat, seeing high-speed events, and doing detailed video analysis of these physical events will help make science “real,” engaging, and a significant part of students’ lives. The equipment purchased with the grant will allow Ephrata High School students to continue with research at a high level of competition, which has helped Ephrata establish a tradition of excellence in the Lancaster Science Fair.
