Safety Bug makes stop at EHS
story by Officer Sheppard

The PA Dui association came to the Ephrata High School on May 20 with the Safety Bug. The Safety Bug is an actual Volkswagen with several modifications. Students were permitted to drive the vehicle around a closed, coned-off course, with the Safety Bug Instructor.  While driving the vehicle the driver had to maneuver around the cones and through small openings.  The entire time the instructor had his own set of gas and brake pedals as well as a switch that caused the car to swerve.  As the instructor would hit a pedal or a switch the driver would have to react.  This showed how with the slightest impairment operating a motor vehicle would be much more difficult.
