Thanksgiving Feast in FCS
story by Stacy Burkey

Nutrition and Foods classes at the high school started their Thanksgiving early by preparing a traditional Thanksgiving meal. On the menu: potato filling, green bean casserole, cranberry salad, homemade dinner rolls, turkey and pumpkin pie! The pie was made with tofu, so it was lower in fat and high in protein.

Students learned about dough by making their own pie crusts and cool-rise yeast bread rolls. They roasted a turkey, then, used the drippings to make gravy, and it was lump free! A few brave students tried the giblets, and just like home, there was fighting over who would get to break the wishbone.

One student was overheard saying, “I’m glad I’m not a mom; this is hard work.”
