4th graders investigate 100% electric car
story and photos supplied by Susan Halsey
A few weeks ago, Mr. Daniel Gallagher visited Clay Elementary School to show his 100% electric car to the 4th grade students who were learning about electricity.  This ‘green’ 1980 Lectric Leopard (LeCar) is powered by 15 batteries which supply enough power to drive a distance of about 40 miles.  He also stated that his vehicle has a top speed of approximately 60 MPH.   The students found it interesting that the batteries can be recharged in only four hours using a 220V outlet or 8 hours on a 110V outlet.  Before leaving, Mr. Gallagher also demonstrated how unbelievably quiet the car is while it is running.
