4th Graders visit Reading Public Museum and Planetarium
story and photos provided by Beth Lyons
Ephrata Fourth graders district-wide visited the Reading Public Museum and Planetarium on December 15th and 21st. The field trip was funded by the TANF Grant. Some of the museum highlights consisted of students viewing collections and exhibitions featuring Nefrina, an Egyptian Mummy, as well as Native Latin America, fossils and animal habitats. Moneyville was the museum’s focus exhibit and this one featured over fifteen interactive components in five thematic areas. Students discovered how money was made, spent, earned and saved and how it connects people around the world. Students were able to involve themselves in hands-on activities ranging from creating their own money, to exploring anti-counterfeiting measures to seeing what a million dollars looks like!
During the planetarium presentation, Fulton and Highland students gazed into “Our Place in Space.” During this exciting program, a host of endangered animals explored the cause of day and night, the importance of our star the sun, the beauty of the constellations and a variety of objects that make up our solar system. What a wonderful opportunity for all!
